currently {2.24)

It feels a bit early for currently. (It’s usually a mid-month post for me.) But not only is it a short month, it will be an extra-short month for me here, since I’ll be on a trip for 8 days. If I don’t do it now, it’ll be March before I know it!

So here we go. I went back to the ‘random verb generator’ I mentioned last month — and it started with a fun one:

What are you currently…? —

{gluing}

Random for sure! I never woulda thought of that. But I like it.

I had squatty glass yogurt jars I couldn’t bear to recycle…nor could I get the labels off. So I went in my paper stash, trimmed to fit, and glued right over them with this. I’m a sucker for paper and jars. So putting them both to good use, and beautifully, well. It’s is one of those ‘inordinate amounts of joy’ things.

{realizing}

When Troy and I were first married and I’d just finished grad school, I occasionally felt agitated…restless. That’s when I’d close a door, sit down, and write. Give me an hour and I was good.

After becoming a mother, when I’d get frustrated…on edge…I knew I needed to exercise. It made a difference, every time. The last five years, give or take — yoga. Troy caught on by then: Do you need to go do some yoga? he’d ask. (Knowing.)

Last week, when I was blue/gloomy/down, I realized —

Now it’s fresh air. When I’m…not myself…or, yes, myself, but a struggling self, it’s fresh air I need. Sunny or not, walking or wandering, yardwork or gardening, or like last week, bundling up and sitting in this quiet nook with gloves, a pen, and my journal– what a game changer.

{chewing}

I’m chewing on more superfoods.

Have I already mentioned this? It’s possible. (Twice is better than none?) —

Since food impacts inflammation…and inflammation impacts pain…I try to make good food choices most of the time. (I’m all about food as medicine — *and* I’m all about food as joy! So, no ‘rules’ — but a guideline? Sure.

One of the best habits I’ve formed is having at least one meal a day of all superfoods — usually the first meal of my day, because it’s a great ‘set-up.’ And daytime snacks…all superfoods, too.

Favorites in addition to what’s shown here: popcorn, sweet potatoes, plain Greek yogurt with raw honey, avocado, eggs, dark chocolate.

Do you have a favorite superfood snack or meal? I’d love to hear.

{hunting}

For a wild turkey!

I mean…for a frame for my wild turkey.

This was a gift from my 16-year-old son. I asked him to draw me a turkey because, for some reason, I’m quite taken with vintage-artsy turkeys.

Currently, I’m on the hunt for an old leather frame. Preferably worn. I’m thinking a dark green mat. Or a double mat, dark green and mustard. Anyway, I have a picture of it in my head and it looks pretty great!

That’s as close to hunting as I get.

{repeating}

Typically, I don’t reread books or watch movies more than once. Some, yes. But not many.

(I figure I’ll never get to all that I want in the first place…!)

One that I do reread is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. And it’s time again.

How do I know it’s time? Bird traffic’s been quiet lately. And, get this, I’m taking it personally! What did I do? What didn’t I do? And so on. When I realized the absurdity of this (nothing’s changed with our food/water supply or conditions) I laughed. Luckily, I can laugh at myself! But I also thought, It’s time to reread.

…Ya think?!

Good grief.

And that’s 5 verbs! Thanks for joining me. What are you up to, currently?

  1. Great current’s to carry you through this short month! (I am stunned it is already the 5th!!) I am envious of your get away! (and I am currently refreshing my memory on mattress seaming!!! Yes! The knitting portion of The Great Cabled Sweater is finished!)

    1. I truly loved the long, languorous January. How strange that just 2 days’ difference can make a month feel weeks shorter?! Our calendars mess with our minds…! Wouldn’t it be interesting to experiment with going without — and just following nature’s rhythm?! (In these days of climate change, that’d be a disaster, sadly.

  2. A fun current post. And where are you going for 8 days?? Inquiring minds and all that. No super foods that I can think of. We eat pretty healthy and I don’t really snack much at all. This morning it was yogurt and a handful of granola. Tonight is salmon, rice and broccoli. Most likely will skip lunch since I’m at work (and there is enough fat stored in my body that – as my friend Leslie says – I could hibernate for months and be fine! LOL). I do love that turkey!

    1. Sounds to me like you gravitate to superfoods naturally! Yogurt, salmon, broccoli.

      Elsa and I are heading to Honduras mid-month to visit her best friend. A year after we moved from CO → NY, Ivanna from from CO → Honduras, where she’s from. It’s kind of a long story…but we are heading there over Elsa’s Feb. break so the girls can spend 8 glorious days together!

    1. I hope you do a better job than I did! I butchered a tree. Sort of like getting a hair cut. I just kept taking more off and more off and more off. I should not be allowed to prune. And I’m reminded of that every time I walk out my back door now!

  3. I am quite impressed that when the verb generator gave you “gluing,” you actually had a response to it! I am right there with you as far as needing fresh air is concerned. I think I need it more in the cold months (unsurprising, I know). I’m sure that when it warms up and we’re spending more time outside, the need will shift.

  4. What a great post. The jars with paper are a terrific idea. If someone asked me about glueing, I’d reply Valentines for the grandchildren. Writing and fresh air are good tonics for the soul and spirit. Have a wonderful trip.
