more + more delights {6}

This one’s great.

Last week running errands a few towns over, I stopped at a red light where the road came to a T. It was a long light, and from where I sat, I watched a little boy play in the front yard.

He looked to be in the ballpark of 7 years old. It was a cold, dry day. He wore boots. A winter coat, unzipped and flapping behind. A pom pom hat.

He leaned at a good angle, holding the arms of a shin-high dinosaur that walked on hind legs. The arms looked longer than those of a T-rex (always the funny thing about a T-rex, right?) — but it was upright in that way you usually see a rex.

This boy was all in. He and that dino, in their own prehistoric land. They hobbly-ran. Side to side, as best they could — given the restrictions of a large, plastic, extinct animal.

No parent. No pal. No screen.

No earbuds/no airpods/whatever.

No nothing.

Just —

Everything.

May your weekend be as delightful. ♥

Any plans to play?

  1. If only most kids would/could play that way! Reminds me of Colin talking about his friend’s son, Hank, who is REALLY into dinosaurs these days (Hank is 3). He walks around their house pretending to be T-Rex! LOL

  2. I am thinking about this same thing lately. First I need to let go of the idea that my play time is taking away from something I should be doing. I have my drawing class on Saturdays now so I am playing with pencils and paper a lot these days.

  3. that is delightful! I didn’t play much this weekend, but the two children’s choirs sang at church yesterday and completely delighted us with the full body movements that accompanied the songs.
